The Fairfax R-3 Class of 2019 and the eighth grade were honored in a commencement ceremony Sunday, May 19, 2019, in Fairfax, Missouri. Seniors recognized included Katherine Eva Baker, Tyler Scott Brown, Zachery Cole Garrison, Shanna Marie Gilpin, Max Bennett Hopkins, Shelbey Lynne Morris, Destany Jade Theas, and Kinley Renea Thornhill. The eighth graders recognized included Caden Lee Brown, Braden Thomas Graves, Natalie Elizabeth Hedlund, Ethan Mitchell Irvine, Zackery Joseph Roger King, Charles Thomas Litherbury, Kierra Kay McDonald, Cameron Lee Oswald, Alejandra Mae Ramirez, Hayden Joseph Riley, Georgie Sue Swinehart, Gavin Michael Talty, Sadie Ce’Nedra Williams, and Trinity Sioux Wooten. Escorts were Kilea Cooper and Trey Bowling. Attendants were Jaycee Graves, Jesse Graves, Jaelynn Hill, and Wyatt Burke.

The processional, played by Susan Braams and Suzanne Southard, was “Pomp and Circumstance.” Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Burright welcomed all in attendance and senior Katy Baker gave the invocation.

Counselor Marisa Hedlund announced the top five seniors: 1st (valedictorian) – Shelbey Morris, 2nd (salutatorian) – Zach Garrison, 3rd – Shanna Gilpin, 4th – Tyler Brown, and 5th – Kinley Thornhill.

Speeches were given by Shelbey Morris, valedictorian, and Zach Garrison, salutatorian.

Principal Dustin Barnes presented the members of the eighth grade class.

A video montage of senior remembrances was played. Principal Barnes presented the senior class and Mike Lewis, Board of Education President, presented the diplomas.

Senior Max Hopkins gave the benediction and the recessional “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield was played.

The senior class flower was a yellow tulip with a blue ribbon. The class colors were sunshine yellow and navy blue. The class motto was “The Tassel is Worth the Hassle.” The class quote, by D.J. Khaled, is “They will try to close the door on you, just open it.” The class song was “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. Mrs. Kelly Morris was the class sponsor.
