Joan Adamson, the daughter of Emert Molton and Alsie S. (Howe) Murphy, was born August 3, 1934, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She attended Benton High School, in St. Joseph, graduating in 1952. 

On April 10, 1964, Joan was united in marriage to William J. Adamson in Mound City, Missouri. They made their home in St. Joseph and became the parents of three daughters, Susan, Paula, and Joy. Bill passed away July 3, 1991. 

While in St. Joseph, Joan was employed as a secretary at the St. Joseph Stockyards. In 1971, they moved to Rock Port, Missouri, where she was employed as the secretary to the elementary principal, retiring in 1996. After retirement, Joan moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to be closer to her daughters.  

Joan enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was blessed to spend the last 22 years together with her family. Joan passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, at the age of 84.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Scheel. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Stephens and husband, Randy, and Paula Brandon, all of Kansas City, and Joy Johnston and husband, Russell, Pleasant Valley, Missouri; seven granddaughters, JoAnna, Chelsea, Amanda, Courtney, Mallory, Katelyn and Jennifer; eight great-grandchildren, Liam, Amelia, Noah, Wyatt, Audrey, Hayden, Keaton and Ethan; and one niece, Cindy Matthes.

A graveside service and interment were held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri, conducted by Pastor Terry Robison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.
