Scott Holmes and Nicole Salmond with This Side Of Normal were picked as the NorthwestCell Fan Favorite for the Pick-Up Country, KNIM’s Country Showdown.

With two nights of Pick-Up Country, Knim’s Country Showdown in the books, the duo This Side Of Normal won NorthwestCell’s Fan Favorite. Nicole Salmond (formerly of Tarkio, Missouri) and Scott Holmes (of Watson, Missouri) won a $100 NorthwestCell gift certificate and four tickets to Adventureland in Des Moines from Pick-Up Country, KNIM. They love creating acoustic duo versions of songs and original songs as well. The creation process is usually fun because “we are quite the nerds and can be sidetracked easily.” They would love to have a crowd of people singing back the words of a song they wrote, so they would know it connected with them. Scott played saxophone in high school contests and it grew from there. Nicole sang in church and was in choir in high school.

All 12 country music performers will move on to the main stage of Nodaway County Fair Friday, July 19, at 8:00 p.m. The contestants are: This Side of Normal; Our Kinda Life, Tricia and Ari McKenney, Bedford, Iowa; Sydney Billings, Barnard; McKenna Liles, Maryville; Shelby Bever, Savannah; Jamie Kay, Jamie Ward, Lee’s Summit; Crimson Ruttenberg, Bedford; William Eimer, Hopkins; Lonia Bowen, Maryville; Tammy Downing, Grant City; Megan Helzer, Graham; and Codi Nuckolls, Maryville.

The winner at the Nodaway County Fair will receive $500 and move on to the next level in The Country Showdown Contest in 2020.
