Robert V. Schaefer, 77, of Heyworth, Illinois, formerly of Tarkio, Missouri, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Services were held last week in Heyworth at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home.
Bob was born March 29, 1942, in Sheffield, Alabama, a son of Robert M. and Christina Smith Schaefer. He married Karen Niemann on July 2, 1966, at the Tarkio United Methodist Church in Tarkio. She survives. Also surviving are daughter Kirsten (Clemons) Schaefer Feldker of Bloomington, Illinois; grandchildren Zachery Feldker and Valerie Feldker; and brother Charles (Marie) Schaefer of Santa Rosa, California.
Bob attended Tarkio United Methodist Church while living in Atchison County and The United Church of Heyworth after moving to Illinois. He attended Tarkio College and earned an MBA from Northwest Missouri State University. Bob was a musician, finding a passion for the trombone from a young age and picking up the trumpet just five years ago. When younger, with friends he built an amateur stock car and competed at the local level. He was also a railroad enthusiast who enjoyed creating model train layouts. He was a woodworker who created projects for family members. Throughout his life, Bob had many interests and hobbies, but most of all he loved his family. He was a loving husband of 53 years, a great father, and a devoted friend who will be deeply missed.
A funeral service was held Monday, July 15, 2019, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Interment was held at High Creek Cemetery, Watson, Missouri.
