The Fairfax Optimist Club hosted the 54th Annual Fairfax Fair August 9, 10 and 11. This year’s theme was “Barn in the USA – A Salute to Rural America.” The Fairfax City Park was filled with game and food stands as friends and family gathered for the annual event.
The fair began with opening ceremonies Friday, followed by the annual Baby/Youth Show and Little Mr. & Miss Fairfax contest, hosted by Fairfax Xi Lambda Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Children from birth to six years were admired as they took the stage.
Adelynn Giddinge and Will Oswald were named 2019 Little Miss and Mr. Fairfax. Adelynn is the daughter of T.J. and Heather Giddinge and Will is the son of Michael and Amanda Oswald.
Gena Mitchell, daughter of Tony and Lisa Mitchell, was crowned Miss Fairfax 2019. Miss Fairfax will receive a picture frame, charm and $1,000 scholarship at her graduation ceremony after completing her responsibilities as queen for one year. Gena was sponsored by Davis Farms.
Olivia Morris, daughter of Billy and Kelly Morris, was named 1st Runner-Up. Olivia was sponsored by Morris Technical Services. She received a cash prize of $150 the night of the event, picture frame, charm and sash.
Devon Sons was emcee for the Miss Fairfax contest, which also included performances by Kenzie Frohn, Katy Baker, Kendal Straub, and Devon and Mikaela Sons.
Many older tractors were on display at the Harry Combs Memorial Tractor Show Saturday morning, August 10.
The ever-popular Fairfax Fair Parade did not disappoint those attending. Danny and Alice Kemerling were the 2019 Parade Marshals.
Saturday night’s festivities included entertainment by Ben Johnson, an Elvis tribute artist, as well as by local talent.
On Sunday, August 11, community church services were moved to the Fairfax R-3 School due to inclement weather, and the Larry Lewis Memorial Pull for garden tractors was cancelled.
The After Prom Committee held a dinner Sunday in the Fairfax Community Room.
