Alice and Danny Kemerling were the 2019 Fairfax Fair Parade Grand Marshals. They rode in style in the parade on Saturday, August 10, 2019, in Fairfax, Missouri.

Danny and Alice Kemerling were selected by the Fairfax Optimist Club to be the 2019 Fairfax Fair Parade Marshals.

Danny and Alice have been active residents of the Fairfax community their entire lives. In 1970 Danny began working as a barber at Gary and Danny’s Barbershop, later known as The Hair Barn. Over a span of 24 years of being in business on Main Street, Danny became involved with several organizations which include: Community Hospital Development Council, Fairfax Community Club, Community Betterment, Fairfax Development Corporation, Atchison County Development Corporation, Fairfax Medical Development Corporation, Fairfax Community Housing, Fairfax Alumni Association, Kiwanis Club and Masonic Lodge. He also served on the Fairfax R-3 School Board, and Fairfax City Council and is currently serving on the Fairfax Rural Fire District and Fairfax Improvement Foundation boards. Danny served in the Army National Guard on non-active duty for six years. Danny also was recipient of the Civic Leadership Award from Missouri Municipal League and was named Outstanding Young Man of America in 1983. Danny is currently treasurer for the City of Fairfax.

Alice attended Northwest Missouri State University, earning her license as a Practical Nurse. Alice began her career with Fairfax Community Hospital and then was employed by Dr. James K. Hunter, Jr. as his office nurse for 20 years, and ended her career in 2011 as an office nurse for Fairfax Family Practice Center.

Alice and Danny have both been members of the United Methodist Church their entire lives where they have served in most every capacity. Alice has been one of the church pianists for over 20 years and is an active member of the Women’s Evening Edition. They both were active in Fairfax Community Club which made lots of homemade “Tutti-Fruiti” ice cream in the early years of the Fairfax Fair, and they were also active in the Fairfax Athletic and Music Boosters.

In 1982 Danny became a substitute rural mail carrier and he became a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and Alice the National Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. In subsequent years Danny served in several capacities on the district and state level, serving three years as president of the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers. Danny was honored as Missouri Member of the Year in 2003 and Alice was honored as Outstanding Auxiliary Member in 2010. Alice has been and continues to serve as board member of the 1st District.

Danny and Alice are both retired and enjoy having time to spend with their children and grandchildren: Dana (Mike) Tracy, Jason (Aubrey) Kemerling, and Kara (Tim) Vette; and Piper and Paxton Kemerling, and Isaac, Owen, and Emmeline Vette.
