Jill (Meyerkorth) McIntyre, far left, with her daughter, Jada Williams, and Brian Slaughter, far right, with his daughter, Grace Slaughter, are both Atchison County natives whose daughters have been very successful in their basketball careers. Jada and Grace are global champions after their team won the 2019 JR NBA Global Championship on Sunday, August 11, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The girls’ team beat Canada 72-35. The tournament consisted of 32 teams with the top 13- and 14-year-olds from all around the world. A total of 15,000 players from 75 countries competed.
