The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met August 20, 2019. The tax rate hearing was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:00 p.m. Board members who were in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Garrett Wood, Ann Schlueter, Chris Yates, and Sam Hannah. Steve Klute was absent. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal Kari Taylor, Lanette Hogue, and Rachel Meyer.

Karma Coleman presented the tax rate. Jamie Barnett moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to set the total tax rate at 3.7844 with $.65 put in fund 4 for Capital Projects and 3.1344 run in Fund 1 Incidental. The motion carried 6-0.

The tax rate hearing was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.

The Board of Education Meeting was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:06 p.m. The consent agenda was approved, as were the district obligations.

Rachel Meyer gave a report on the TAC. They are gearing up to start dance and gymnastics. Alli Yates will be teaching preschool dance and assisting with other classes. Christina Hall will be teaching school age dance and gymnastics. Rachel Meyer will be teaching preschool gymnastics. The new flag purchased with donations has been installed and is ready to use. The first high school volleyball game will be held there on August 27, 2019.

Administrative Reports

Elementary Principal Kari Taylor gave a report on the beginning of the school year. The elementary has 171 students enrolled preschool-5th grade. They are starting PBIS with all students in those grades. She reported that they have received a lot of compliments on how nice the elementary school looks.

High School Principal Carrie Livengood gave a report on the beginning of the year at the high school. They have 172 enrolled in 6th-12th grades. They have three students attending Vo-Tech and nine students doing school-to-work this year. Open house was a success. Opaa! to go will start on Monday, August 26, 2019, for the high school. Mrs. Livengood met with all students and went over the handbook for the school year.

Superintendent Karma Coleman reported that the school will pay the final invoice to CTS. Carlisle Roof Inspectors has warrantied the roof. They are looking into the cost of new freezers for the kitchen and Midwest Data Center will put alarms on the current freezers. A school resource officer will be available at school and is provided by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department.

Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve the resignation of Dianna Hawkins. The motion carried 6-0. Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve the hiring of Jordan Riley and Sandi Riley as paraeducators. Chris Yates moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve the bus routes of Gary Riley and Julie Barnett as presented. The motion carried 6-0. Chris Yates moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve the sub list as presented. The motion carried 6-0. Garrett Wood moved and Sam Hannah seconded to approve Amy Hurst as a sub. The motion carried 5-0-1.

Ann Schlueter moved and Garrett Wood seconded to approve the tuition rate at $4,500 a year and $250 for each additional student in the family. The motion carried 6-0. Sam Hannah moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve A Resolution for Atchison County Hazard Mitigation Plan as presented. The motion carried 6-0.

Policy 2865 pediculosis (head lice) – Ann Schlueter moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve policy 2865 as presented. The motion carried 6-0.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, record and vote at 8:25 p.m. The meeting came out of closed session and adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
