The Missouri Retired Teachers and Public School Personnel (MRTA) began their September 5 meeting with a tour of the Tarkio Activities Center. This is a repurposed building from the days of the Tarkio College. Over four million dollars that came primarily from the wind farm taxes was used to completely renovate the building which had multiple damage. Today it is spacious with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, gymnasium, locker rooms, concession area and more.
Following the tour members were treated to a delicious chicken meal catered by Nick White.
After lunch Tracy Lovett gave a very interesting program describing how she became a children’s author and illustrator. She is also a professional photographer. Books were available for purchase as well as other art items. Tracy has a vivacious personality and is willing to speak to school children. Her contact number is 712-520-4772.
MRTA will meet again November 7 at the Dusty Trail in Rock Port. Meetings begin at 11:00 am. All retirees from public schools are welcome. Atchison and Holt County superintendents are also always welcome.
MRTA is our pension watchdog. Come join us and help keep our retirement out of the hands of misinformed legislators.
