The Rock Port school board, at its last meeting, passed a resolution to name the football field Pierce-Rupe Athletic Field, in honor of Lieut. Marlin Pierce and Sgt. Brad Rupe, the first graduates from the local school to lose their lives in the service of their country during the present war. However, the field will be dedicated to all the former students and alumni who have offered or given their lives in the defense of their country. The field will be dedicated at an appropriate ceremony.

Rock Port’s 26-6 victory over the South Holt Knights of Oregon Friday was given a big assist by the Jays’ defensive unit, led by John Cox at cornerback, who had 26 defensive points to his credit including 10 unassisted tackles. The Jays’ defenders also had a blocked kick to their credit with Jeff Copeland getting his hands on the ball. Second best defender was Barry Gaines with 17 points followed by Steve Davis and Tom Graves with 13 each. Rock Port’s defensive unit should pick up considerable support in the backfield for their next game, when David Meyerkorth, suffering a hand injury, will be back in the lineup as safety and standout pass defender from last year.
