The City of Fairfax Board of Aldermen met Wednesday, September 18, 2019. The meeting was called to order by Ryan Kingery, Mayor, at 6:35 p.m. Roll was taken. Also in attendance were: Kristi Duering, Tabitha Wintz, Beth Graves, and Michael Oswald, aldermen; John Brown, Water Superintendent; and Kristy McDonald, City Clerk.
The tentative agenda was approved, as well as the regular minutes of August 22, 2019, and accounts payable.
There was a discussion regarding the possibility of putting a sales tax increase on the April election ballot. If it is agreed upon after gathering more information the council would like to hold a public meeting to get input from city residents. That date will be decided at a later time.
A short discussion was held regarding the Rural Fire protection agreement.
Staff Reports
Danny Kemerling was not present, but his treasurer’s report was presented showing that all accounts are in balance.
Kristy McDonald reported on the status of nuisance letters that have been sent out and court fines that have been issued.
John Brown presented a bid for a new water meter reading laptop and software upgrade. The laptop they use to read the water meters stopped working this week and the software is old and no longer supported. The aldermen voted unanimously to purchase the new laptop and upgrade the software. John also presented quotes from Midwest Data Center to upgrade the office computers to Windows 10. The aldermen voted unanimously to approve the upgrade.
They will be doing some sewer work in the alley behind the Dairy Diner next month.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:36 p.m. The next meeting is October 16 at 6:30 p.m.
