• A very active student council has been organized at Tarkio High School under the supervision of Supt. Wallace Croy. The purpose of the council is to give the students as much part as possible in promoting school activities. The student body officers elected to the council are: president – Paul Wessler; vice-president – Robert McNulty; secretary – Kathleen Vette; and treasurer – Jack Davis.

• Major Thomas A. B. Ditton, distinguished military analyist and war correspondent, will speak here tonight in Rankin Hall at 8 o’clock. He is presented by the Artist Course Series of the college.

October 23, 1969

  Several young football enthusiasts journeyed to St. Joseph Saturday for zone competition after winning the Punt Pass and Kick competition here sponsored by Wright Motors last week. They included Gary Hogue, Curtis Jones, Jeff Stewart, Lonnie Shaw, Joseph Nocton, and Tom Henson.

• Homecoming 1969 will be held at Tarkio College on Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25. In honor of the late Walt Disney, the homecoming theme is “A Tribute to Disneyland.” The Owls will be playing the Central Methodist Eagles.

• The congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Watson, Missouri, will observe its 100th year of service to the community November 2 at the church building. Harry Broermann, Tarkio, president of the Atchison County Historical Society, will give the centennial address. The congregation was organized at Sonora and the church was moved to Watson when the Missouri River inundated Sonora.

• Jodi Nuckolls, daughter of Duke and Denise Nuckolls, was crowned Tarkio High School fall homecoming queen and Trevor Houghton, son of Darwin and Georgia Houghton, was crowned homecoming king at the football game Friday, October 14. Crownbearers were Paige VanGundy and Taylor Hurst. The Indians’ football team improved their overall record to 7-0 and their Grand River Conference record to 5-0 with the homecoming win against Maysville.

• A coed volleyball tournament sponsored by C.A.T. will kick-off Red Ribbon Week Saturday, October 22. Also that day, a county-wide dance for all ages will be held at Schechter Gymansium on the Tarkio Academy campus. Dave Swan, a DJ for Sweet 98 Radio in Omaha, Nebraska, will provide music for the dance.
