The Wolves’ defense was impenetrable and held the Cardinals from scoring any points in EA’s homecoming game Friday, October 11, 2019.
EA’s Josh Smith picked up this Cardinals’ fumble in the first quarter, giving the Wolves the advantage to score again in the first minutes of the game.
Cameron Nance had 13 rushing yards in the Wolves’ homecoming win over Stewartsville.
East Atchison Fall Homecoming Week 2019 was filled with good vibes all the way through. The Wolves faced the Stewartsville Cardinals Friday night, October 11, on Kyle Field at M. David Palmerio Stadium in Tarkio. The Wolves’ winning streak continued, with East Atchison taking the homecoming victory in the second quarter and advancing their overall record to 7-0.
Briacin Bywater wasted no time putting points on the scoreboard for the Wolves, running the opening kick-off back 65 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Jake McEnaney (12 of 13) connected with Kaylin Merriweather on the two-point conversion to give EA 8 to Stewartsville’s 0.
On the following kick-off, the Cardinals fumbled and Josh Smith came up with the ball for the Wolves. The EA offense made quick work scoring in three plays. Bywater covered the last six yards as well as converting on the two-point conversion to make the score EA 16, Stewartsville 0 with 10:45 left in the first quarter.
The Cardinals did manage a first down on the next drive, but the Wolves’ defense stood strong and EA took the ball over on downs on the EA 33 yard line. Striking pay dirt again in three plays, Bywater scored on a pass from McEnaney, and again Bywater scored the two-point conversion to make the score EA 24, Stewartsville 0.
The Wolves’ defense, showing no weakness, again returned the offense back to the field in four short plays. Merriweather caught a pass from McEnaney on the first down and took it to the house from the Stewartsville 30 yard line. McEnaney converted the two-point conversion to give the Wolves 32 to Stewartsville’s 0.
Forced to punt on the next possession, the Cardinals gave the Wolves the ball on Stewartville’s 38 yard line. Bywater found the open lane all the way to the end zone on the first play, then caught a pass from McEnaney on the two-point conversion to give EA 40.
Outstanding play again by the Wolves put the offense back on the field. With 1:02 left in the first quarter, Ian Hedlund hauled in a pass from McEnaney to give the Wolves 48, after Gus Hurst caught the two-point conversion.
The start of the second quarter saw the Cardinals forced to punt. At this point in the game, the younger players got called up to take over. Not slowing down, the Wolves scored again when Braden Graves found the end zone. McEnaney converted the two-point conversion to make the score now EA 56, Stewartsville 0.
EA’s Jordan Goodin stalled the next Cardinal drive when he came up with a fumble to give the Wolves the ball on the Stewartsville 17 yard line. Wolf Josh Smith scored the final touchdown of the game with 4:03 left in the second quarter. The two-point conversion failed, making the final score EA 62, Stewartsville 0.
The Wolves face off with the Stanberry Bulldogs Friday, October 18, 2019, in Fairfax for Senior Night action. Grid-iron play begins at 7:00 p.m.
