A snow-covered roadway caused a one-vehicle accident one mile north of Tarkio early Monday morning, November 11, 2019. The crash occurred as a 1998 Ford Ranger, driven by Nicholas Schebaum, 25, of Tarkio was heading northbound in Atchison County on Hwy. 59 at 4:38 a.m. The Ranger began sliding on the snow-covered roadway and travelled off the east side of Hwy. 59, struck a road sign and overturned onto its top. The Ranger came to rest on its top off the east side of Highway 59 facing northeast. Schebaum, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries, but was checked out by the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service and was not transported. The 1998 Ford Ranger sustained extensive damage and was to be towed from the scene by Double M Towing when conditions improved.
The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper T.L. Shupe, who was assisted by the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
