East Atchison’s football team members were recognized at the athletic banquet Wednesday, November 13, 2019, and letters were handed out to earners. However, due to the Wolves’ season not being over yet, no individual awards were presented (they will be awarded at a later date).

The East Atchison fall athletes were honored at a banquet held Wednesday evening, November 13, 2019, at Fairfax High School. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal before the festivities began.

Cheer Coach Erica Taylor recognized this season’s football cheerleaders, including Gena Mitchell, Mc-Kenzie Frohn, Tessa Rolf, Alli Yates, Alexis Gibler, Jaden Goodin, Katie Hall, Josie King, Emilee Caudill, Emily Blum, Kierra McDonald, Grace Peck, and Kelsea Kirwan. The Spirit Stick Award was awarded to McKenzie Frohn and Gena Mitchell earned the Most Valuable Cheerleader Award. Letters were also presented to earners.

Volleyball Coach Stephanie Parsons recognized this year’s volleyball players, including Kierra McDonald, Emily Blum, Alexis Gibler, Emilee Caudill, Kiara Hines, Tessa Rolf, Dzeneta Kitic, Olivia Morris, Natalie Hedlund, Jesse Graves, Jaycee Graves, Cheyenne Gray, Brynnan Poppa, Anna Klute, Ella Rolf, Sophia Martin, and Taylor Stanton. The girls finished their season with a 19-8 overall record (those eight losses only consisted of three teams) and a 12-2 275 Conference record. The team placed second in the Conference and second at Districts. Individual awards were presented to: Most Kills – Jaycee Graves (who earned over 500); Most Digs – Ella Rolf; Most Aces – Jesse Graves and Sophia Martin; Most Assists – Brynnan Poppa; Most Blocks – Cheyenne Gray; Captains – Jaycee Graves and Brynnan Poppa; Most Improved – Cheyenne Gray; and Team Most Valuable Player – Jaycee Graves. Several East Atchison volleyball team members were also recognized for having received All-Conference and All-District honors. They included: Ella Rolf – All-Conference, All-District Tournament Team, and Second Team All-District; Brynnan Poppa – Unanimous All-Conference, Unanimous All-District Tournament Team, and First Team All-District; Jesse Graves – Second Team All-District; and Jaycee Graves – Unanimous All-Conference, Unanimous All-District Tournament Team, and Unanimous First Team All-District. Also earning honors, but not pictured, was Cheyenne Gray – All-Conference Honorable Mention. Letters were also handed out to earners.

Cross Country Coach Kameron Schieffer recognized this year’s cross country team members, including Jordan Graf, Hunter Bennett, Lucas Joesting, Daniel Lesher, Matthew Driskell, Thomas Danielson, Jaecey Hill, Jaden Clark, Haley Garrison, Hayley Palmer, and Hedvig Petersson. The boys’ team had a fantastic season, placing second in the 275 Conference and setting a new EA record as a team. Jordan Graf also earned All-Conference honors with his 5th place finish and earned All-District honors with his 13th place at Districts and Hunter Bennett earned All-Conference honors with his 6th place finish in the conference meet. Jordan also qualified for State and finished 88th with a personal best time of 19:02.3. Individual honors were presented to: Jaecey Hill – Most Improved Female Runner; Lucas Joesting – Most Improved Male Runner; and Jordan Graf – Most Valuable Player. Letters were also presented to earners.

Girls’ Golf Coach Terry Wooten recognized this year’s golfers, including Jae Barnett, Bryli Staten, Kelsea Kirwan, Josie King, Ashlynn Meyer, Brooke Lee, and Stormy Nordhausen. The girls had a very successful season, placing first in many events, including the Tecumseh Tournament (which the girls have won 14 years in a row). The team qualified for Sectionals and two golfers, Jae Barnett and Kelsea Kirwan, missed qualifying for State by one and two strokes respectively. Individual honors were presented to: Jae Barnett – Most Valuable Player; and Bryli Staten – Most Improved Player. East Atchison girls’ golf team members Jae Barnett and Kelsea Kirwan were also recognized for having received All-District golf honors for Jae’s 5th place and Kelsea’s 15th place in the District tournament.

Head Football Coach Aaron Behrens and Assistant Coaches Nate Jeter and Kevin Dodson recognized this year’s football team, which includes Briacin Bywater, Gus Hurst, Jake McEnaney, Jordan Goodin, Ash–ton Yeary, Keaton Williams, Kaylin Merriweather, Bo Graves, Deondre Hughes, Josh Smith, Tanner Rollins, Carter Holecek, Cody Frohn, Connor Brown, Jarrett Spinnato, Oliver Smith, Braden Graves, Cameron Nance, Ian Hedlund, Charlie Litherbury, Tony Skeen, Tyler Donaldson, Aaron Schlueter, Jes-se Navin, Slade Rosenbohm, Trey Bowling, Austin Anderson, and Jared Stanton. No individual awards were handed out, besides letters, because the season was not over yet at the time. And oh what a season it has been! The team had been undefeated with a 10-0 record going into last Friday night’s game against Mound City in the Class 1, District 4 Championship. This was the first undefeated season since the East Atchison co-op and the boys have worked very hard on and off the field to make it happen.
