November 24, 1944
• Seventeen men went with their wagons to the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McCall last Friday and shucked out 1,200 bushels of corn, all in one long day. Mr. McCall, who has been in ill health for several months, will now be able to go to the Veterans’ hospital the last of this week without the worry of unshucked corn on his mind. Wives of the shuckers and other neighborhood women sent in and helped with the preparation of the food.
• Dr. Donald McMullen has been granted a leave of absence from the School of Medicine of the University of Oklahoma at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to attend the School of Tropical Medicine in Washington, D.C. Dr. McMullen is a son of R.B. McMullen and is a former resident of Tarkio Last year, Dr. McMullen spent some time in Guatemala, studying in his field.
November 27, 1969
• Earth moving has begun at the site of the nursing home which will be constructed on North Third in Tarkio. Witt & Juckette Construction Co., Inc., of Iowa, specialists in nursing home construction, will be working on the facility this winter as weather permits.
• More than 100 friends and relatives gathered in Eppley Lounge for a dinner given by the Division of Education at Tarkio College Tuesday, November 25, to honor Gertrude Strobel for her more than 50 years of service in the area of education. She is currently the Associate Professor of Education at Tarkio College and supervises students in their teaching experiences, as well as teaches Children’s Literature, an area in which she had much person and professional interest.
• Sixteen local children of 4-5 years of age are now enrolled in the Head Start program with Mrs. Lawrence Pattee as teacher and Mrs. Marie Hopkins as aide. The class started October 27 at Brown Gymnasium.

• The Tarkio High School Football Team traveled to Shelbyville, Missouri, to compete in the Class 1-A State Semi-Finals Saturday, November 19, against North Shelby. The Indians pulled out the come-from-behind 7-3 win over the Raiders to keep their record unblemished and to advance to the 1994 Missouri Class 1-A Show-Me Bowl!
• The 7th annual Christmas Tree and Craft Show by the Business and Professional Women in Tarkio was a huge success despite the rainy, gloomy day. People enjoyed the booths, decorated trees, the table of baked goods, and the stage decorations created by Scott Morehouse and his elves, Regena Irvine, Darcy Vette, and Darlene Joesting.
