December 1, 1944

• Winter weather hit this section of the country Tuesday and brought the first snow of any consequence for the season. Snow fell most of the afternoon and early evening, much of it melting as it fell, but there was about two inches on the ground Wednesday morning. Much of the corn crop in this section is already harvested, but those farmers who have not did not relish the coming of snow at this time.

• With nine lettermen on the 1944-45 basketball squad, the Fairfax cagers will open the regular season on December 8 as host to the Oregon Pirates. The regular schedule includes 12 games in addition to the Fairfax Tournament and the Rock Port outdoor tournament.

December 4, 1969

• Added conveniences adjacent to the new shelter house in the Fairfax City Park includes two gas pole lights and two gas grills. The city financed the project with both grills and a light and Peoples Gas contributed the second light. Grills operate free to users with the city footing the bill for fuel consumed.

• Mrs. Junior Thiesfeld was a guest at the Sorosis meeting Monday at the home of Mrs. Herschel Stoner and gave a demonstration on making poinsettias and Christmas decorations using chenille bumps.

December 1, 1994

• The McConnells were named Citizens of the Year by the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Jim and Polly McConnell have been very active in Community Betterment and have led the Avenue of Flags to the success it is today. All the work they have done for the community has been without pay and lots of times without any acknowledgement.

• First place winners of the displays in the park were: religious – Baptist Church; humorous – Wolverine 4-H Club; and traditional – the Matthew Pyeatt memorial tree. The overall grand prize winner was the Methodist Church. Miss Fairfax Amber Seymour threw the switch on the lights to light the displays on Light Night.

• “Over the Backfence” by Nancy Gaines: “A lot happens in town when I leave. Rogers is moving the pharmacy department to Tarkio; Countryside Florist sold to KG Buds; and Fairfax wins the state championship in 8-man football, just to name a few.”
