• Santa Claus will be at the Tarkio 5¢ to $1 Store tomorrow.
• Harry A. Love, president of the Tarkio Rotary Club, has appointed a committee to arrange for a Rotary Ann party to be held on December 26. The Christmas party for Rotary Anns is a traditional program instituted in the first year of the Tarkio Rotary Club and is the outstanding event of the Rotary year.
• The fire department was called to the residence of Mrs. Ora Brenner Monday afternoon about 4 o’clock, when a fire, thought to have started about the chimney, burned a hole in the second story floor and walls. Damage was estimated at about $150. The house is covered by insurance.
December 18, 1969
• J.D. Johnston, Westboro, Missouri, has been named to receive a special award for his excellence in corn growing. Announced by Herrick Feed and Produce, representing the producers of Funk’s G Hybrids, the award is in recognition of Mr. Johnston’s production of a 130.97 bushel corn yield. This high yield is being officially entered in the nationwide record books of PROJECT 200, which is a high-yield corn growing project.
• A complicated machine, recently installed at Manley’s Popcorn Co., prints, folds, and forms paper bags at the rate of 500 bags per minute, all in one operation. The machine, made in Germany, is valued at over $15,000 and was installed by Don Davis, manager, and Roy Brown, foreman. The first shipment of 120,000 bags for over 3,000 concessions was made by Manley’s last week.
• At its meeting held on December 5 and 6, the Board of Directors of Tarkio College approved the concept of a proposal submitted by a student committee for the establishment of national fraternities on the Tarkio campus. Currently, there are five men’s societies on the Tarkio campus.
December 15, 1994
• A terrible ice storm gripped Tarkio and the surrounding area last week. The bad weather caused numerous cancellations of events and even forced the Tarkio R-I Schools to dismiss early Tuesday, December 6, and not have school on Thursday, December 8. The storm caused tree limbs to fall and made traveling nearly impossible.
• P.E.O. Chapter FF donated nearly $500 to the Tarkio/Westboro Ministerial Alliance.
• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce Elf Auction raised approximately $1,100.
