December 22, 1944
• An endowed scholarship for Tarkio College in the amount of $1,000 was established Wednesday by Don Hurst, Tarkio farmer. The gift was in the form of two $500 Series O bonds. Mr. Hurst operates the east part of Ranch 1, which formerly belonged to the late David Rankin and now is owned by Mrs. M.B. Giffen of Washington, D.C.
• The interior of the Martin Auto Store has been painted and redecorated this month. The ceiling walls are light beige and the shelves are orange with green facings.
December 25, 1969
• The God and Man services held last week in Tarkio, conducted by laymen of the churches for men and boys, broke all previous attendance records with an average of 103 persons attending. The largest number was 117 and the smallest was 80.
• The Tarkio Lions Club and the Farm Bureau Insurance Company are hosting a Defensive Driving Program for all motorists 16 years of age and older at the Tarkio Community Building January 8, 15, and 22.
• A rare Christmas treat is in store for visitors to the St. John’s Lutheran Church nine miles northwest of Tarkio. A 14’ tree decorated with “Chrismons,” all in white and gold, graces the chancel. Over 180 white lights give further brilliancy to the sight, which is especially impressive after dark. The public is invited to see this tree during the holiday season all day and evening until 10 p.m. on Christmas Day.

• A terrible ice storm gripped Tarkio and the surrounding area last week The bad weather caused numerous cancellations of events and even forced the Tarkio R-I Schools to dismiss early Tuesday, December 6, and not have school on Thursday, December 8. The storm caused tree limbs to fall and made traveling nearly impossible.
• P.E.O. Chapter FF donated nearly $500 to the Tarkio/Westboro Ministerial Alliance.
• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce Elf Auction raised approximately $1,100.
