The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met December 18, 2019, at Tarkio High School. The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:00 p.m. Board members who were in attendance were Jamie Barnett, Garrett Wood, Sam Hannah, and Steve Klute. Ann Schlueter entered the meeting at 7:15 p.m. Chris Yates was absent. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Board Secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Tarkio High School Counselor Tracy Cooper, Markie Sundermann, Deyton Thomson, Terry Wooten, Dara Whipple, Ellie Graves, and Rachel Meyer.

The consent agenda was approved, as well as district obligations.

CTA will be hosting a Trivia Night on January 25, 2020.

Rachel Meyer presented on the happenings of the TAC.

Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Coleman went over the MAP test results and the APR.

Elementary Principal Kari Taylor reported that the elementary had 95% attendance for November. The Kids’ Korner hosted a Thanksgiving Family Feast, third grade had their Thanksgiving program, and kindergarten hosted Grandfriends Day. The music department had their Christmas Program for 4th-6th Grade. The Kindergarten and 1st Grade had a Polar Express Party. The whole elementary participated in a reindeer run.

High School Principal Carrie Livengood reported there were 65 students who had 98% or higher attendance and do not have to take any finals. A total of 27 students had lower than 94% attendance and will have to take all of their finals. The music department held their Christmas program. Basketball season and wrestling are in full swing. The junior high and high school held their winter ball and had a great turnout.

Superintendent Mrs. Coleman gave a financial report. She enclosed newsletters from The Mule Barn Theater Guild and Tarkio Tech. They are looking into fixing the leak in the elementary library. She will meet with Apple Bus later in the week to talk about contracting transportation. Bill is gathering bids to repair the track and should have them all by January.

Steve Klute moved and Garrett Wood seconded to approve the 2018-19 audit. The motion carried 6-0.

Garrett Wood moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to accept the EA co-op agreement for Fairfax to pay 45% of the coaching salaries and Tarkio to pay 55% of the coaching salaries. The motion carried 6-0. Ann Schlueter moved and Garrett Wood seconded to approve the two-year EA co-op agreement with Fairfax for all sports for 2020-21 and 2021-22. The motion passed 6-0.

Discussion was held on a possible drug testing policy. It was tabled until next month. The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
