Fairfax High School students Kilea Cooper, Jaycee Graves, Jesse Graves, and Gena Mitchell are preparing to step out of their comfort zone and participate in a 10-day educational travel program to Spain June 1 – 10, 2020. They will be accompanied by their Spanish teacher, Patty Hodge, and community member, Beth Graves. The trip is organized by Worldstrides, the largest student educational travel company in the United States.

The students will travel to the cities of Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Cordoba, Granada, and Barcelona. They will visit various religious and cultural sites including the National Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Royal Palace, the Alhambra, the Alcazar, and Columbus’ Tomb.

The Worldstride Learning through Exploration and Active Participation (LEAP) program will provide the students with unique opportunities to explore the Spanish culture through a variety of activities including a Spanish cooking class, Flamenco dance class, attendance at a professional Flamenco performance  and a bullfight exhibition.

Through participation in this exceptional educational experience,  the students will not only broaden their knowledge of history, government, architecture and geography, they will  earn college credits.

These young ladies have been working diligently to earn the funds needed to finance their  trip and would welcome any financial support from the community. Join them for a spaghetti lunch at the Fairfax Methodist Church on Sunday, January 26, 2020, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A free will donation will be accepted. Immediately following the lunch there will be a “Welcome to Our Home” Tour of Homes, focusing on remodeled homes in Fairfax. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 by contacting Lisa Mitchell, Beth Graves, or Traci Cooper or can be purchased the day of the tour for $20.
