• Manley, Inc., has purchased the Harley Mather farm, 240 acres, located north of Dotham. Mr. Mather has bought the 120-acre farm on Highway 4, formerly owned by Mrs. J.W. Holliday, and Frank Cooper has sold his 240 acres north of Tarkio to R.H. Glenn.
• The American Legion advertised a a dance with return engagement by Lee Barron and his 10-piece orchestra Monday, February 5, at the Community Building in Tarkio. Admission is 75¢, tax included.
February 5, 1970
• Tarkio College will offer a course for water safety instructors from the Northwest Missouri area during the months of February and March. The first part, a 15-hour course, will emphasize swimming strokes and a review of life-saving skills. The second part, another 15-hour course, will emphasize teaching techniques and methods.
• The temperature for the Tarkio area reached a high of 53 degrees on February 1 and dropped to a chilly low of minus three degrees on the third. Precipitation amounted to .11 for the month of January, according to Lester Morton, local official weather observer.

• Westboro, Missouri, R-IV School District received its AA classification under the 1980 Classification and Accreditation Standards for the state of Missouri.
• Tarkio High School Basketball Homecoming Queen Mandy Martin and King Wes Summa were crowned at the conclusion of the basketball games at THS on Friday, January 27.
• The cost of the Tarkio Avalanche will increase effective Friday, February 17, 1995. Subscribers who haven’t renewed their Avalanche subscription will be subject to the increase from $18 to $19 for Missouri mailing address in Atchison, Holt, and Nodaway counties and from $23 to $25 for all other areas.
