• Over the Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Don’t forget to go to the Ground Hog supper at the Christian Church in Fairfax this Thursday night. The men of the church are carrying on the longtime tradition. It used to be someone donated a hog; Don Kerr Grocery let the men use his facility after hours to prepare it, Newell Green came with his “magic” seasoning mix and the men made the sausage and stuffed it into sacks. Now modern technology has taken over and the sausage is bought from the grocery store and all the men do is cut and fry it. They stir up pancakes just like in the olden days, though.”
