Crystal Woodring, director of Northwest Missouri Living Center, and Stephanie Brannen, office manager for the Atchison County Living Center, were present to meet with the commission. Director Woodring updated the commission on their current statistics. They are currently providing services for 14 developmentally disabled individuals locally and provide in-home PA for two developmentally disabled individuals. They currently have 29 employees and onsite training includes Level 1 medication aid training, CPR, HIPPA, positive behavior support and abuse and neglect training. They continue to be members of MARF and get to work hand-in-hand with statewide providers, creating training modules and policy language to assist in providing the best quality of care to the individuals they serve. This also allows them the opportunity to lobby and fight for legislative priorities for the department of mental health and overall advocate at a state level for the developmentally disabled, as well as the needs of their staff. Director Woodring pointed out their concerns are funding cuts, the overall system not being proactive to the needs of developmentally disabled individuals, the effects of the minimum wage increases on the overall budget, and overall lack of job opportunities locally. This hinders placement and future job growth for Atchison County.
Sheriff Dennis Martin was in to update the commission on an ammo misfire involving Deputy Devon Sons while at a training in Springfield, Missouri. The gun performed as it was designed to in a situation like this and Officer Sons received very minor injuries.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Adam Meyer was in to update the commission on the road conditions of those roads being used in connection to the levee repairs.
There being no further business, the commission adjourned.
