The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met March 18, 2020, at Tarkio High School. The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:00 p.m. Board members who were in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Chris Yates, Garrett Wood, Sam Hannah, Steve Klute, and Ann Schlueter. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, and teachers and staff members Terry Wooten, Shannon Bruns, Amy Haddock, Melody Barnett, and Markie Sundermann.

The agenda was approved, as well as district obligations. Rachel Meyer gave a report on TAC membership.

The CTA report was presented.

Elementary Principal Kari Taylor reported that the elementary had 93% attendance for February. At this time there are 21 incoming kindergarten students for 2020-21. Kindergarten and first grade held their Dr. Seuss Party on March 4, 2020. Second and fifth grade held a parent event March 12, 2020. The Book Fair was held March 16-18. No special education meetings were being held because of the school shutdown due to COVID-19.

High School Principal Carrie Livengood reported the year-to-date attendance at the high school is 95.78%.  Junior high held their play. Junior high wrestling wrapped up their season. The National Honor Society tapping was held and eight new members were tapped. The sixth grade attended the D.A.R.E. movie day in Auburn, Nebraska. Teachers will use the break to work on curriculum and assessments.

Superintendent Coleman gave a financial report. We should end the year in the black. There will be a 12.5% increase for health insurance for 2020-21. She is recommending a 2% increase for all staff for 2020-21 school year. Opaa! will be fixing lunches for pick-up free to all children while there is no school due to COVID-19 pandemic. The election will be moved from April 7 to June 2 due to the pandemic. Current board members will stay on board until the election.

Jamie Barnett moved and Steve Klute seconded to approve the 2% increase to staff salaries for 2020-21.  The motion carried 7-0.

Ann Schlueter moved and Garrett Wood seconded to approve the final reading of the calendar for 2020-2021. The motion carried 7-0.

Chris Yates moved and Steve Klute seconded to approve the bid from Athco in the amount of $16,195. The motion carried 7-0.

Sam Hannah moved and Jeff Meyer seconded to approve the bid from Apple Bus Company. The motion carried 7-0.

Steve Klute moved and Garrett Wood seconded to approve the retirement letter from Kurt Sloop. The motion carried 7-0.

Ann Schlueter moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve the resignation letter from Kayti Hayes. The motion carried 7-0.

Steve Klute moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve the proposal for membership at the Tarkio Golf Course for the 2020-21 school year in the amount of $5,000 where all students have access to the golf course for the 2020 golfing season.  The motion carried 7-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Steve Klute seconded to approve the Oppa! Renewal for the 2020-21 school year. The motion carried 7-0.

Chris Yates moved and Steve Klute seconded to approve the teacher job description as presented.  The motion carried 7-0.

Jeff Meyer moved and Steve Klute seconded to approve the senior trip policy as a 24-hour trip effective with the class of 2021. The motion carried 6-1.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo record and vote at 8:40 p.m.

The board voted to offer contracts for 2020-2021 to the following: Tammy Aksamit, Kevin Dodson, Carrie Driskell, Courtney Driskell, Laura Forehand, Ellie Graves, Courtney Harms, Michelle Henry, Nate Jeter, Jennifer Peregrine, Maria Spire, Eric Walker, and Megan Calfee.

The meeting moved out of closed session at 9:50 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:56 p.m.
