Planning is going ahead for summer semester at Tarkio Technology Institute (Tarkio Tech) despite the coronavirus pandemic.
High school seniors can apply now for a summer class in welding, said John Davis, Tarkio Technology Institute president. “By the end of the summer semester, students can earn a certificate in welding that will prepare them for full-time employment.”
The program is 18 credits. Students will spend four and a half hours daily in class and labs over 12 weeks.
In the welding class, Davis said students will learn arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding, TIG welding and MIG welding.
Application forms and more information is available about both programs at https://tarkiotech.com.
Courses were offered for the first time at Tarkio Tech in January. Davis indicated that the first students of welding program completed their courses on April 30 and have passed their welding certification tests.
In addition to the summer welding program, Tarkio Tech will be offering certificate programs in Wind Energy Technology, Plumbing, and Welding beginning this fall.
Continuing education classes in basic welding, basic home plumbing, drone pilot training, firefighter training and a variety of personal interest topics will also be scheduled for this summer and next fall. The tech school is continually seeking individuals who are willing to offer continuing education courses in areas of their interest and expertise, said Davis.
Tarkio Tech is located on the old Tarkio College campus in Thompson Hall, 404 N. 13th Street, Tarkio, Missouri. Call 660-623-9071 for more information.
