A two-vehicle accident seriously injured a Westboro, Missouri, man May 2, 2020. The accident occurred at 7:10 a.m. when a 2019 Chevrolet Trax, driven by Joel L. Gibson, 45, of Westboro was driving northbound 4.5 miles northwest of Westboro on Hwy. 59. As a 2019 Freightliner M2, driven by Charles Blake Hurst, 63, of Tarkio, approached the Trax heading southbound, the Trax crossed the center line and struck the front driver side of the Freightliner. The Trax rotated counter-clockwise and skidded off the west side of the road and came to rest in a private drive on its wheels. The Freightliner began skidding and crossed the center of the roadway, travelled off the west side of Hwy. 59, struck and embankment, and came to rest on its wheels.
Joel Gibson, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries and was transported to Shenandoah, Iowa, then to the trauma center at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Blake Hurst, who was also wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. The 2019 Chevrolet Trax was totaled and towed by Double M Towing. The 2019 Freightliner M2 sustained extensive damage and was towed by Benefiels of Hamburg, Iowa.
The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper V.P. Wiley, who was assisted by Trooper K.A. McCallister.
