Deanie Jo Ray was born August 1, 1934, on a farm north of Fairfax, Missouri. She was the daughter of W.L. and Neva Hindman. Deanie attended Oak Grove School grades one through eight and then she attended Fairfax High School where she graduated in 1952. She then attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, Missouri, for a short time. After that she married Harold Keith Ray and to this union two sons were born.

Deanie loved to garden and at the peak of her life she kept an adequate supply of canned food ready to eat. She always loved to help on the farm. On June 22, 1977, she had a severe stroke and recovered partially. Keith and Deanie were later divorced. In September of 1996 she had another stroke and she entered Pleasant View Care Center in Rock Port, Missouri. Then in March of 2017 she transferred to Tarkio Rehabilitation & Health Care.

Deanie was a charter member of Friendly Neighbors Club and she was a past member of the 49er’s Hobby Club. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Deanie passed away Sunday, May 10, at the Community Hospital-Fairfax at the age of 85.

Besides her parents, Deanie was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Karen Ray. Survivors include her sons, Scott and his wife, Bonnie, Fairfax, and Kent and his wife, Janice, Fairfax; grandchildren, Jessica and her husband, Lance Murry, Hickman, Nebraska, Jennifer and her husband, Brandon Peregrine, Tarkio, Missouri, and Harold Ray and his wife, Jessica, Savannah, Missouri. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Ava Murry, Bo, Jax, Jorja, and Bennett Peregrine, and Madison and Sadie Ray.

Private family graveside service and interment were held Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax. Memorials may be directed to the Fairfax City Park and Fairfax City Hall. Services were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
