“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.” Psalm 103:1-6

Have you ever driven up the side of a mountain, and then when you got to the top, you pulled over to the side of the road (or stopped at an scenic overlook), got out of your car and looked out at the beautiful mountains and valleys that surround you? Have you looked down at the twisting and turning and perhaps even perilous road you had just ridden upon to get to where you are? Have you taken the time to stop and think about your journey up that mountain?

Sometimes we Christians need to stop and take some time to look back and think about where we are right now in our life’s journey. Sometimes we need to look back and see what it’s taken for us to get where we are right now. We need to look and see all the twists and turns that we’ve taken or experienced in our journey to realize how blessed and fortunate we are to be where we are right now! Yes, the road may have been long, it may have been very rough and perilous at times, but here we are, still breathing and living at this moment in time.

As we look back we can see the faithfulness of our Loving Lord, as He directed our life’s journey to this very moment. Bible scholar F.E. Marsh described what a Child of God can see when he/she looks back at their journey:

The Deliverances the Lord has Wrought (Deuteronomy 5:15)

The Way He has Led (Deuteronomy 8:2)

The Blessings He has Bestowed (Deuteronomy 32:7-12)

The Victories He has Won (Deuteronomy 11:2-7)

The Encouragements He has Given (Joshua 23:14)

Sometimes, during the difficulties we face in our life’s journey, we have a tendency to forget about God’s Faithfulness. Sometimes we see only the rough times, the detours and the dangerous paths we’ve taken. But if we take an honest look at our journey, we’ll see how the Lord has given us the joy of victory during the challenging climb to the top of the mountain where we now stand. We will recognize that during the entire journey, He has been a constant traveling companion, who has fulfilled His promise to ‘Never Leave Nor Forsake Us.’

So, take courage my brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of what you and I may face each and every day, know this: The One who brought you this far will continue to abide with you and watch over you until the end of your journey. Never be afraid, the One who holds the world and all creation in His hand is able and has promised to take care of you today, tomorrow and forevermore.

‘Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits!’

Blessings!
