The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met May 20, 2020. The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:00 p.m. Board members in attendance were Jamie Barnett, Garrett Wood, Chris Yates, Steve Klute, and Ann Schlueter. Sam Hannah joined the meeting at 7:15 p.m. Others in attendance were Superintendent Karma Coleman, board secretary Lanette Hogue, Elementary Principal Kari Taylor, High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Heather Olson, and Josh Wright.

The consent agenda was approved, as well as district obligations.

The Tarkio Activity Center (TAC) reopened on Monday, May 11, 2020, to members who are over 18. Twenty-four hour access is not being allowed at this point. There are guidelines posted for use of the fitness center.

Tarkio R-I School Nurse Meghan Hughes prepared a Health Services Report for 2019-2020.

Superintendent Karma Coleman gave a financial report. COVID-19 has created issues for state funding, and the district will know more in June on withholdings. Mrs. Coleman reported that they have started working on fixing the sidewalks at the TAC. Pat Athen is finishing the floors in the offices at the TAC and putting in new flooring in the staff workroom at the elementary. The TAC parking lot is resurfaced. The football scoreboard will be shipped on May 22, 2020. The district is looking into putting up a lean-to at the TAC and is working on landscaping throughout the district.

Board members voted unanimously to approve the resignations of Kerri Ohrt and Jordan Riley.

Jamie Barnett moved and Sam Hannah seconded to approve the hiring of Courtney Meyerkorth for K-12 Art. The motion carried 7-0.

The board members unanimously voted to approve the renewal of two CDs at 1.05% for seven months, as well as the Career Ladder Pay as presented. The board members also unanimously voted to approve the bid from Klosek’s LLC in the amount of $406.00 per month.

Ann Schlueter moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve the following job descriptions: Para-Professional, High School Secretary, Superintendent Secretary/Board Treasurer, Elementary Secretary, Food Service Administrative Assistant, and Bookkeeper/Board of Education Secretary.  The motion carried 7-0.

Chris Yates moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to approve a $.10 increase to lunch prices for the 2020-2021 school year, making the prices $2.40 for PK-5th grade and $2.45 for 6th-12th grades.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, to record and vote at 7:50 p.m. The board came out of closed session at 8:03 p.m.

Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to hire Josh Taylor as a paraprofessional for 2020-2021. The motion carried 7-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Garrett Wood seconded to hire Josh Taylor for junior high assistant football coach, high school boys’ assistant basketball coach, and junior high boys’ head basketball coach. The motion carried 7-0.

Chris Yates moved and Sam Hannah seconded to approve Joe Unternahrer for high school assistant boys’ basketball coach. The motion carried 7-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to approve Tammy Aksamit for junior high assistant volleyball coach. The motion carried 7-0.

Garrett Wood moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to approve Lanette Hogue for junior high assistant girls’ basketball coach. The motion carried 7-0.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
