• When J.M. Atkins went to his barn lot Saturday morning to do the milking, he found his best Jersey cow dead. The animal had been killed by lightning during the night.
• Allan Garrison and J.E. Hayes suffered injuries Friday when a bicycle they were riding crashed into a car driven by Mrs. Carl Seymour at the intersection near the Ed Hunter residence. Allan sustained a boken arm and J.E. suffered a bad cut just under the right knee and was scratched and bruised over the body. It was some time before they regained consciousness, but thankfully both boys are now making good recovery.
June 18, 1970
• Sgt. Richard Miles surprised his parents with a telephone call Sunday from Sydney, Australia, where he was on R&R. Richard had just been promoted to Sergeant and is being transferred to brigade headquarters near Tan Ky, Vietnam.
• Mrs. Dorothie Seymour and her daughter, Gale, showed their Arabian gelding, Ko-tun, at the annual Kansas City Arabian Show at the American Royal. They tied for the high point gelding trophy.
• Thirteen girls are vying for the “Miss Fairfax 1970” title. Contestants are Sara Sue Weedin, Linda Harrington, Christie Brindle, Becky Jones, Kay Jean Hawkins, Gale Seymour, Debbie O’Riley, Susan Norton, Stephanie Sly, Jennifer Kottman, Marcia Graves, Kay Kent, and Trudy Smith.

• The King’s Travelers, a gospel group from Springfield, will perform at Fairfax R-3 School June 17. In the group is Steve Deckard, formerly of Fairfax. Steve’s brother, Kevin, is also a member of the group.
• The Fairfax Impelemnt Co. locked its gates to the public Friday at the close of business. The company opened on August 1, 1952, by owners Dale Seymour and Blaine Seymour at the north edge of Fairfax on Hwy. 59.
• Atchison-Holt Ambulance District took delivery of the second of three newly remounted ambulances May 30.
• Paul Robert Jones was a member of the 37th graduating class of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, May 31. Paul was one of 987 cadets participating in the graduation exercises and receiving their Bachelor of Science degree and commission as a Second Lieutenant. Paul was a 1991 graduate of Fairfax High School.
