June 8, 1945

• The Rock Port Extension Club held its April meeting with Mrs. S. F. Wier. Miss Doris Beebe met with the club and a gave a demonstration on cleaning and spotting. Mrs. Bliss Bailey received the hostess gift. The club met with Mrs. Wayne Henderson on May 14 with all members present and two visitors, Mrs. Joe Harrington and Miss Minnie Stroble. The club made nine rolls of bandages, 66 scrapbooks, 56 pads and gave 12 copies of Readers Digest, which will be sent by Miss Strobel to the Mt. Vernon sanitarium and Mercy Hospital. Subject of the afternoon was “Family Relationships” by Mrs. Shaw, leader.

• Assigned a quota of $513,000 in the Seventh War Loan, Atchison County has already gone far past that quota with the remainder of June remaining in the drive. Fred Andrews, county chairman, reports that total bond sales in the county amounted to $742,530.75.

• James Kirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Kirk, Rock Port, is back from the European war zone, where he was a prisoner of the Germans from September 26, 1944, until April 30, 1945.

June 11, 1970

• The Rock Port Community Garden Club Show held June 5 was attended by gardening fans from Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. Some came as far as Glenwood, Iowa, and there were many residents of Oregon present. Awards and ribbons were received by many garden club members for their entries. Mrs. E.J. Bratrud won the Award of Merit for her purple clematis. The sweepstakes award was won by Mrs. Willard Scamman.

• The Templeton Homemakers Extension Club met May 28 with Mrs. Phil Shandy. Eleven members enjoyed the clothing lesson on new fabrics given by Mrs. Ed Maheu. Mrs. William Gebhards received the hostess gift.

June 8, 1995

• Citizens Bank & Trust held its 7th Annual Style Show on May 31, 1995, at the Methodist Church in Rock Port, Missouri. The fellowship hall was decorated to set the mood for the theme of “Tomorrow’s Wishes, Yesterday’s Dreams.” The show opened with dancers from Lynn’s Studio of Dance performing two ballet numbers. The dancers were: Megan Carey, Angie Hancock, Nicole Lytle, Janae Pearce, Ashley Robertson, Sara Scarbrough, and Taryn Wennihan.

• The savings are “heating up” at Darlindy Foods with the following specials: top sirloin steak, $2.99 per pound; ground beef, 99¢ per pound; and charcoal briquets, $3.29 for a 20 pound bag.
