• An attendance contest which has been in progress since the first of the year between business men on the east and west sides of Main Street has been won by the west side, according to announcement made at Friday’s meeting of the Community Club. The margin was close, as the winners were given credit with 124 to 123 by their opponents. “Skipper” Cribbs has been keeping tally and even though he is an east-sider, was careful in the tabulations. The men on the losing side will have to provide the food for the annual picnic.
• A local man who has just had the foundation laid for a small residence had a prospective renter make application the first of the week to learn whether he had made any rental agreements with other persons who might be wanting the house when it is completed.
• The large two-story residence on the Mrs. Emil Krutz farm, southeast of Nishnabotna, was destroyed by fire about noon Tuesday. The fire, so far as can be determined, doubtless originated from a defective chimney.

• Mrs. Betty Burke and family have moved into Rolf’s apartments until the building of their new home is completed. Mrs. Burke’s new home is being built in the Country Club addition directly north of Dr. Wanamaker’s home. Mrs. Burke sold her house on Hwy. 136 to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cooper, Rock Port.
• Cochran Electric, Rock Port, has been awarded the contract for $400 fluorescent lights for the Pleasant View Rest Home dining room and kitchen by the judges of the County Court. The price is $400 plus labor costs.
• Temperatures reaching the high 90s and into the 100s have caused more water and kilowatts to be run through the light and water plant in Rock Port. In 1969, the peak for water for one day was 214,200. In 1970, the peak was 282,000. The electricity peak for one day in 1969 was 40,500 kw. In 1970, the peak was 43,700 kw.

• Donna L. Shineflew, assistant vice president, Bank Midwest, Rock Port, was honored recently by the Missouri Bankers Association for her 50 years of service to the banking industry. She was recognized by induction into the 50-Year Club at the association’s 105th annual convention held at the Lake of the Ozarks. Mrs. Shineflew began working at the Bank of Atchison County in the fall of 1945. She served as teller, bookkeeper, assistant cashier, and cashier.
• Rose Munsey of Rock Port has been spending part of her summer gaining practical experience and college credit hours through an internship in the Peru State College Division of Business. Munsey has been working as a computer operator for Business Division secretary Linda Staples and for Jack Hamilton, chair of the college Business Division.
