The Fairfax R-3 School Board held a regular board meeting July 18, 2020. Mike Lewis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Also present were: Josh Oswald, Sam O’Riley, Jon Graves, Miles Smith, Chris Smith, and Brett Johnson, board members; Jeremy Burright, superintendent; and Dustin Barnes, principal.

Jill Kingery, on behalf of the Fairfax Improvement Foundation, spoke to the board members about donations they have received to date for new bleachers for the football field. She has been in contact with the bleacher company for a delivery date. The committee is also seeking volunteers to remove the old bleachers and to help install the new ones.

The agenda was approved as presented.

The financial report was reviewed.

• Year-to-Date Revenues (YTD): last year, $2,489,578; this year, $2,255,554.

• YTD Expenses: last year, $2,146,209; this year, $2,058,169.

• Budgeted revenue vs. budgeted expenditures, $54,650; End-of-Year (EOY) revenue vs. EOY expenditures, $199,384.

• 2018-19 Year Expenditures, $691,499; Revenues: $115,033

• 2019-20 Year Expenditures, $312,151; Revenues, $87,696

• Fund Balance Report: Last year YTD, $966,312; This year YTD, $1,218,968

The July monthly bills in the amount of $47,910.44 were reviewed and approved for payment.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT–

Facility Update: Weeds have been sprayed. Oelze has been contacted about weed eating, mowing too close to our fence and doing the bank.

Elementary Floors: The floors in the elementary are finished.

Fire Alarm (from Scott Lord at ECC): The additional devices will not be at an extra cost. The initiating devices and most of the head end equipment shipped today and should be in the Fairfax shop by mid-week. The notification devices will not ship until July 22. Some of those devices may not ship until July 31.

Annual Wolves Expenses and Revenues: Payment of $12,521.95

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT–

Mr. Banres reported on general information about the new school year. Registration is August 11, and will be held in the new gym this year to adequately have room to space individuals out. PD plans are being finalized for the year. Texts, consumables and supplies are being delivered. A staff meeting will be held August 3 to discuss back to school information and the school’s COVID-19 plan. Teacher work days will be August 19 and 20. School starts August 24 with early dismissals on August 24 and August 25. Plans are being made to make the transition back to school for 2020 as seamless as possible.

Mr. Barnes also reported on athletic information. High school practices start August 10 at Tarkio, and junior high practices start August 17 at Tarkio. Practice schedules for August are located on the school’s website (athletic tab). Fall athletics, at this point, are still a go. They are waiting to see what transpires over the next month. Be prepared for any scenario from normal games to restrictions on who comes to games, or COVID testing to get into games, or possible cancellation of games and events.

NEW BUSINESS–

Board members voted unanimously to approve the donation of bleachers and labor associated with new bleachers from the Fairfax Improvement Foundation.

The tax rate hearing was set for August 20, 2020.

Approval of the Title IX Coordinator was tabled.

The second reading of the COVID-9 Safety Plan was done. The board hopes to have a final approval after staff feedback on August 20, 2020.

The next regular board meeting will be Thursday, August 20, 2020, immediately following the tax rate hearing.
