Peru State head volleyball coach Laurie Felderman has announced the recent signing of former Rock Port Blue Jay standout Kelcie Gaines of Watson, Missouri.

Gaines is 5’7” and will be a defensive specialist for the Bobcats. She is the daughter of Cindie and Seth Gaines. Kelcie is transferring to Peru State from Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in Creston, Iowa.

At Rock Port, Gaines was twice named to the 275 All-Conference First Team and to the District 16 All District team. In addition, following her senior year, she was honored as an all-state setter. During her senior year, she was a unanimous selection in the three various honors.

The Blue Jays went 20-9 her senior year in which she had 219 assists while averaging 3.7 assists per set, had 51 service aces, 92 digs, and 48 kills. She also played basketball for Rock Port and was involved in many activities.

Last year at SWCC, Gaines played in 36 matches and averaged 3.91 digs per set. She earned ICCAC Division II All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Gaines plans to major in health and physical education while at Peru State.

“Kelcie brings further experience into our defensive specialist position and a cool, collected personality on the court,” Felderman said about her latest recruit. “I’m glad we could reconnect after a year at Southwestern, and add another local player to our roster. This speaks volumes for the high school talent in our area!”
