The Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 recently met. Pam Meek gave the opening prayer. Amber Riley led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Preamble of the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Barb Hines and approved by the unit. Treasurer’s financial report was given by Treasurer Sheridan Mires.

It’s that time of year again to renew memberships. See or send your renewals to Barb Hines. No communications were received to share with the unit. There will be no District meeting in September due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

A motion was made and seconded during the May meeting to give an additional donation to the Food Pantry, Community Services, and Ministerial Alliance. Those donations were given with Community Services contacting us when they have a need.

We are being asked by many of our rummage sale patrons if and when we would have a sale this fall. We have tentatively set the date for our Fall Rummage Sale to October 9 and 10. We hope to start taking in donations on September 24 provided we have no resurgence of COVID-19. KC Hines reminded us that this is still not confirmed and discussion has been tabled until next month. We will be posting more information when we get closer to sale time.

If all goes well with health concerns, we plan to have our annual turkey dinner on November 1, 2020. However, we are discussing different options of how we can offer this meal and still follow CDC guidelines. Again, this is not confirmed and discussion has been tabled until the next meeting.

We were unable to have our memorial service with the draping of our charter for those members we have lost this past year, so we will have this service next meeting, which is September 8, 2020, at 5:30 p.m.
