The City of Fairfax Board of Aldermen held a regular meeting August 19, 2020. The meeting was called to order by Ryan Kingery, Mayor, at 6:34 p.m. Also in attendance were: Kristi Duering, Tabitha Wintz, and Beth Graves, Aldermen; John Brown, Water Superintendent; Lori Helfers, City Clerk; and Danny Kemerling, Treasurer. Visitors were Alva Stoner and Ron Adams.

The tentative agenda was approved.

Property Tax

Public Hearing–

Bill #2020-14 titled: An ordinance providing for the rate of taxation for general and special purposes within the city of Fairfax, Missouri, for the calendar year 2020 was presented to the council and read by title by Ryan Kingery.

The aldermen voted to approve Bill #2020-04. Bill #2020-04 was assigned Ordinance #2020-08-1558.

Visitors/

Public Forum–

Ron Adams and Alva Stoner were present to discuss concerns about the sewer line on 6th Street. After some discussion the council decided to ask John to have a cost assessment done.

The regular minutes of July 10, 2020, were approved.

Accounts payable was also approved.

Old Business–

Money from the Fairfax Improvement Foundation and Ray’s memorial money has been deposited. New equipment has been ordered. John will be meeting with Todd Fogg later this week to go over installation.

The next phase with the buzzards at the City Park will be continued in early spring due to the birds migrating in a couple weeks.

Staff Reports–

Danny Kemerling presented his Treasurer report showing that all accounts are in balance.

Lori Helfers gave a report regarding properties that need to be cleaned up.

Lori and John both completed training on the new Beacon software.

John Brown reported that surrounding towns are scheduling their water tower cleaning soon.

This is something that has to be done every five years according to DNR. If the Fairfax tower is scheduled to be cleaned during the same time as surrounding towns then there will be a discount. The aldermen voted unanimously to go ahead with the water tower cleaning.

John gave an update on lagoons. He is waiting on a quote from Ryan with Nutri-Jet on cleaning out the sludge. They are also looking at new waste water testing sites to handle the test Fairfax needs to have done.

The next meeting is September 16, at 6:30 p.m.
