Josh Smith runs through a tackle in the East Atchison Wolves’ loss to Southwest Livingston August 30.

To start the football season East Atchison (EA) welcomed Southwest Livingston Wildcats (SW) to Dave Palmeiro Stadium in Tarkio, Missouri, on Sunday, August 30, 2020. That’s right, Sunday. The game was moved back due to SW not being able to get enough practices in because – you guessed it – COVID-19. It was a great day to watch some football and the weather was about perfect for the spectators.

EA started the game receiving the ball where they started midfield with a short kick. The Wolves moved the ball past midfield before having to punt the ball away. SW was able to convert a 4th and long for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good making the score 0-6. EA would answer back with a pass from quarterback Josh Smith to end Ian Hedlund to tie the ball game at 6 all. SW Wildcats would go to the air again and make the two-point conversion to make the score 6-14. The Wolves’ quarterback Josh Smith would punch one in from the one yard line to make the score 12-14 SW. SW would go on to score two more times, ending the first half 12-28 SW.

This would be the theme of the day. With injuries and penalties, EA couldn’t ever get the momentum going in their direction and SW would go on to win 30-54. East Atchison will travel to Hopkins this Friday to take on NorthWest Nodaway.
