President of ALA Unit 199

The Allen-Schiffern  American Legion Auxiliary Unit #199 was called to order by President Linda Payton on September 14, 2020, with nine members answering roll call. Pam Meek gave the opening prayer. Gloria Baker Smith led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Preamble of the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Barb Hines and approved by the unit. Treasurer’s financial report was given by Treasurer Sheridan Mires.

We are at 100% of membership for the year 2019. It’s that time of year again to renew our memberships for 2020. See or send your renewals to Barb Hines.

Sheridan shared two communications received since last meeting with the unit. There will be no district meeting in September due to the COVID-19 regulations. The next district meeting is scheduled for November 7, 2020.

We have decided to not have the fall rummage sale. We apologize to all of our patrons, but we need to keep you and ourselves safe. The spring rummage sale will be in April 2021.

We will hold our annual turkey dinner on November 1, 2020, with some changes. It will be curbside pickup only. No one will enter the building. All food will be prepared in the building.  An article will be printed in the newspaper explaining the details. If you normally donated a salad or dessert, we are asking that you make a monetary donation so we can purchase the ingredients and make them ourselves.

We closed the meeting with the Memorial Service and the Draping of our Charter for those members lost to us this past year. The next meeting will be  October 12, 2020, at 5:30 p.m.
