October 5, 1945

• The five schools in the Daleview Consolidated District have been painted and redecorated. Libraries have been added and other schoolroom and playground equipment have been provided. A new heating plant has been installed at Walkup’s Grove and one is to be installed at Mt. Salem.

• Cpl. Walter E. Bradfield of Fairfax was one of the specialists of the Army Airways Communications System airbone detachment that landed at Atsugi Airport outside Tokyo, among the first Yanks to land in Japan. Cpl. Bradfield, along with some one hundred other AACS men, was in the advance echelon of communications that guided the 11th Airborne Division into Tokyo during the first days of occupation.

October 8, 1970

• Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fries were alarmed when the phone rang at 2:00 a.m. Monday morning, but were relieved to find it was a message from their son, Danny, who is stationed in Vietnam. He was phoning via radio hook-up and reported that he was fine.

• Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Cunningham of Corning returned several days ago from a two-week trip to Africa. They visited the countries of Tunisia, Tanganvika, Kenya, Morocco, and Spanish Morocco. They took an air safari into a game reserve and saw many native animals. They found farming practices primitive beyond belief. The farmland of northwest Missouri never looked better, they relate, than when they flew home.

October 5, 1995

• The Fairfax FHA Chapter recently held its annual initiation of new members. The FHA’s theme was “Power Rangers” and 11 students were initiated: Danielle Beck, Mary Chastain, Magen Cooper, Melinda Bradfield, Andrea Harding, Sabrina Nemyer, Jill Pyeatt, Jamie Smith, Jayme Thompson, Jennifer Swisher, and Rachael Wheeler.

• The Fairfax Marching Band, under the direction of Bill Wells, won its eighth first place award in a row Saturday when the group traveled to Clarinda, Iowa, and competed in the Class A band day event there. This is the third year in a row that Fairfax has placed first in Clarinda. .

• Dennis Athen of Fairfax has been appointed the Mo-Ark Division 2 Lieutenant Governor of the Kiwanis Clubs. The district includes clubs in Fairfax, Burlington Junction, Maryville, St. Joseph, Mound City, and Oregon.
