The Atchison County Commission issued a burn ban for Atchison County last week due to the imminent threat of disaster by the way of fire. Fires have been reported throughout the county and have caused substantial damage. Once started, these fires are difficult to control and strain volunteer fire departments’ manpower and resources.

East Atchison golfers competed at State Monday and Tuesday. Monday scores included: Alex Barnett – 111, Bryli Staten – 115, and Kelsea Kirwan – 120. Final scores will be published in next week’s paper.

There will be a benefit for Drake Daugherty in November. Drake fell ill September 18 and was life-flighted to Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, on September 19. Watch for more details on ways to help this young man and his family.
