Drake Daugherty, Rock Port, fell ill late Friday, September 18, and early the morning of the 19th was life-flighted to Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was diagnosed with a cyst on his brain between the frontal lobes. The following Monday, he had surgery to remove the cyst. By God’s grace, his family is told he will make a full recovery, however the time under which “full” recovery is expected is still unknown. Drake has returned home after more than a month in the hospital, but ongoing outpatient therapy is required.
Life is fragile and Drake’s family, friends and community are grateful to have a second chance. That second chance will never be short of love; but financial challenges are likely a guarantee.
Drake has lived in Atchison County his entire life and is always so eager to help others. You may recognize Drake from his time previously at Ag Choice, his ongoing volunteer time with Rock Port Fire Department, his work with Bowman Farms (Hamburg), or as being part of the Missouri River levee crew. Kim is an employee of Gavilon and the kids are or will be Rock Port Blue Jays.
Anyone who knows Drake understands his incredible work ethic is driven by love for his three beautiful children: Briar (8), Blaykleigh (5), and Ivy (soon to be 2), as well as his wife Kim. Along with the already compounding medical expenses, Drake’s insurance coverage changes at the end of October 2020. At that time his family will be facing a second set of deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance expenditures for the year.
A benefit is planned for Saturday, November 21. Now is our time to help the Daugherty family and show them, “We Are The Village.”
