The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Tarkio High School. The meeting was called to order by Board President Garrett Wood at 7:00 p.m. Members in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Heather Olson, Ann Schlueter, Chris Yates, and Josh Wright. Sam Hannah joined in via webcam and audio. Others in attendance were: Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Special Education Director Kari Taylor, board secretary Lanette Hogue, Devon Sons and Markie Sundermann. Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood joined the meeting at 7:45 p.m.

The consent agenda and district obligations were approved.

Rachel Meyer reported that practices and volleyball games are in full swing at the TAC. They hosted an elementary volleyball tournament. Gymnastics and dance are planning to start in January. The wind farms have held meetings at the TAC. Memberships are up from September.

Elementary Principal and Special Education Director Kari Taylor gave a report on the school year. The elementary has 172 students enrolled and 95% attendance. The first round of NWEA testing is complete in the elementary. They currently have no children in quarantine. Mrs. Taylor reported they currently have six evaluations in progress. They have received several new referrals.

High School Principal Carrie Livengood gave a report on the high school. She reported that attendance is 88.9%. They currently have no children in quarantine. Girls’ golf has ended and had a very successful year with three golfers making it to state and being district champs. The football, volleyball and cross country teams will be begin district play next week. The high school has completed NWEA for math, science and reading. There are 14 boys and 15 girls out for junior high basketball. They begin games next week. The high school staff will have Google training next week with Morenet.

Superintendent Karma Coleman gave a financial report. The October state payment came in at 87% so it is up from 83% in September. Mrs. Coleman shared a Tarkio College newsletter. She shared a report from Opaa!. The staff is starting the CSIP process and beginning with a needs assessment. They are hoping to have it in place for the 2021-22 school year. RPDC is providing guidance in the process. Mrs. Coleman has updated all board policies, regulations and forms. Midwest Data Center is working on uploading them all to the school website. Mrs. Coleman reported that all students are receiving free breakfast and lunch through the end of the school year thanks to the USDA. Mrs. Coleman reported that at the end of the year, parents of preschoolers will be refunded for any days they were not in session due to COVID. Mrs. Coleman reported the results of a survey done by area schools on sub rates. The championship banners are ready to be installed at the TAC.

Board members approved the retirement of Lisa Clement and Lesley Graves effective June 30, 2021.

The board approved the updates to the following policies and regulations: R2610 Discipline, P4710 Contract Penalties, R5660 Field Trips and R6255 Independent Educational Evaluation.

The board voted to approve the following job descriptions as presented: Speech Pathologist, PAT, Library Media Services, and FCCLA, FBLA and FFA sponsors.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, record and vote at 8:25 p.m. The meeting came out of closed session at 9:05 p.m.

Sam Hannah moved and Chris Yates seconded to impose an indefinite ban of Kat Ritchie from Tarkio R-I District property anddistrict events as a result of Kat Ritchie’s physical and violent behavior in violation of Board Policy and Regulation #1431. The motion carried 7-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to approve Superintendent Karma Coleman’s retirement effective June 30, 2021. The motion carried 7-0.
