Kaylin Merriweather gains some yards for the Wolves in the East Atchison win over Worth County.

East Atchison’s Josh Smith hands the ball off to Braden Graves to score some more points for the Wolves.

On Friday, November 6, 2020, East Atchison hosted its second District playoff game against the Worth County Tigers. With game time temperatures in the 70’s and a large crowd of supporters, the Wolves did not disappoint, winning 60-14. They not only had an outstanding offensive showing, but kept the defensive line tight and didn’t let many Tiger plays through.

The Tigers started the game on offense and put the first points on the board. After the failed two-point conversion, the Wolves took over on offense, marching down the field. Ian Hedlund, despite several Tiger defenders hanging onto him the last 11 yards, ran the ball into the endzone to put EA on top 8 to 6 (with a successful two-point conversion).

Hedlund had two more rushing touchdowns (3 total). Kaylin Merriweather also had three rushing touchdowns and Josh Smith handed off to Braden Graves for two scores, which rounded out the points for East Atchison. The Wolves’ offense had one of its best performances of the year, but the defense stole the show with a playoff level performance Friday night.

This Friday, East Atchison will travel to Stanberry, Missouri, for the District Championship. This will be a rematch for the two teams, who went head-to-head back in October with the Bulldogs edging out the Wolves by only two points in the extremely tight 18-20 contest. This week’s game time is 7:00 p.m.
