• Rev. Lawrence O. McKinney, who spent 10 years as a missionary in China, will speak tonight and tomorrow night at the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio. Rev. McKinney, whose general headquarters are at Springfield, Missouri, expects to return to the Chinese mission fields.

• A blanket of snow fell Tuesday night in this area, the first of this fall season. The average depth amounted to two inches, the local U.S. Airways Communication station reported on Wedesday. The highest recording in temperature between the period of November 15 and 22 was 68 degrees on last Friday afternoon, November 16. The low was 13.5 degrees at 2:30 a.m. yesterday.

November 26, 1970

• Men and trucks of Light and Power Co. and United Telephone Co., assisted by local businessmen, were hard at work in frigid temperatures this week installing Christmas decorations on Tarkio’s Main Street. The decorations this year have been greatly enhanced by the addition of seven more “overhead” pieces valued at $3,600 which were purchased last spring by the Tarkio Chamber of Commerce at a bargain price.

• Two prisoners are scheduled to enjoy a full-blown Thanksgiving feast at the county jail in Rock Port today, according to Deputy Sheriff Wayne Templeton. His wife will have roast turkey, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, two kinds of salad, giblet gravy, pickles, and other trimmings. Thanksgiving evening supper will be strictly scraps from the dinner with another piece of pumpkin pie as the pie de resistance.

• The Heartland Educational Institute Board of Directors recently named Margo Byrne as the new supervisor for Heartland Recreation Center located on the Tarkio Academy campus in Tarkio. Margo is a Tarkio College graduate who earned her degree in Psychology and is currently completing requirements for a master’s degree in Physical Education/Secondary Education at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

• For the coming holiday season many local people are doing their part to help those among us who are in need. On Wednesday, November 22, 1995, Tenth Street Restaurant will open at 5:00 p.m. to serve a Thanksgiving Dinner until 9:00 p.m. It is hoped that enough money will be raised to make a significant donation to help all of those around in need by donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the Tarkio/Westboro Ministerial Alliance.
