November 23, 1945
• A fire alarm was sounded shortly before eleven o’clock Monday night and sent the fire-fighters to the Wayman Holliway home in Nauvoo, but too late to save the house. The Holliway family, with the exception of the son, Richard, is out of town, and the son says he had no fire in the house for a day or two so the origin is thus uncertain. In addition to the house and contents, two pigs in a pen nearby perished in the fire.
• Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bartholomew, who recently returned to Rock Port from California, are establishing a grocery and general store in the Bowers building in Langdon. Langdon has been without a store for some time.
• Herman Joesting, son of Louis Joesting, has purchased from Everett Cloepfil the latter’s 120-acre farm in the High Bank community, northeast of Rock Port.
• Geo. I. Beasing, president of the Community Club, has issued personal invitations to several persons in the county to attend the November meeting of the club to discuss the matter of a county library.
November 26, 1970
• The setting for the FFA-FHA Barnwarming was the Ag Shop November 19. The 1970 Queen was Judy Miller and King Dave Meyerkorth.
• This last week the females of Rock Port High School have been undergoing a very unusual change. November 9-13 was set up by Student Council as a trial week for girls to wear slacks. Below are some comments of the trial week: Diane Kirk – “I think it’s a great step forward for the down-trodden women.”; Eric Chamberlain – “I get more studying done!”; Caroline Klemme – “I like it and I think we ought to be able to wear slacks.”; and Coach Gates – “There is a time and place for slacks and nice weather is not the time.”
• The Atchison County Court has signed a contract from Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smith, Belleview, to operate the Pleasant View rest home. They will take over operations January 1, 1971, at the time of Mrs. Helen Stevens’ retirement after nine years as administrator. The Smiths have no experience in this line of work as Mr. Smith has been employed by a livestock commission and Mrs. Smith is a bookkeeper.

• The 4-H Barn has taken on a new look thanks to volunteers who have been putting on new siding.
• Rock Port R-II students are thankful for: elementary – Nicole Lytle – for my brother, Preston, and my sister, Paige, Micah Meyerkorth – for Thanksgiving because it’s my birthday, Jayson Erdman – for turkey; and high school – Mrs. Novell – The new James Bond, Ryan K. – Jill Lewis, Teresa C. – I get to get out of school, and Nick V. – Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
• The West Atchison Fire District received a check for $1,900 as part of the Rural Community Fire Protection program administered by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
• The new I-29 Kart Shop is a sister operation to the I-29 Speedway. It’s located at 316 South Main and features Buller Karts. There are several in stock and Dyno tuned engines will make them run to their best.
