• Atchison County Memorial Post No. 4608, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, will hold their first public dance on Friday night, December 14, at the Community building in Tarkio. Cal Meyers and his nine-piece orchestra have been secured for the dance.
• The annual dinner of the Atchison County Teachers Association was held at the Fairfax High School auditorium Wednesday evening of last week. Some 100 teachers from Atchison County were present. Holt County teachers were also invited and 38 from that county attended.
December 10, 1970
• Young folks are invited to deposit letters to Santa in the mail box which has been installed on Main Street by the Hy-Klas store in Fairfax.
• The Christian Youth Fellowship plans to sing Christmas carols Sunday evening, December 13. They will be walking through the streets of Fairfax and anyone wanting them to sing should put a candle in the window.
• Lane Seymour of Fairfax, state winner of the 4-H photography award, is being honored at the National 4-H Congress this week by the sponsor, Eastman Kodak Company. Seymour received congratulations from Wylie S. Robson, Kodak vice-president and director of marketing, at an opening day “get-acquainted” party in the Conrad Hilton Hotel. He also received a Kodak instamatic camera and will be provided with film and flashcubes for his photographic record of the Congress.

• Santa Claus will be making his official visit to Fairfax on Saturday, December 16. His visit will be sponsored by the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce with the candy treat courtesy of the Kiwanis Club and Optimist Club. Turkeys will be given away at a drawing.
• The Kiwanis Club met November 28 at the Methodist Church with 22 members and three guests attending. The program was given by Byron Fink of Oregon about his four trips to Bokkeca, Russia. He showed slides and told of their visits with two farmers who have privitized after breaking away from collective farming. Each man can have a house with 30 to 40 acres to farm.
