December 14, 1945

• Jack Simmons marketed 2,300 pounds of tobacco at Weston, Missouri, Monday. He was accompanied by J.C. Dunkle.

• E.C. Whitford has purchased the L.B. Christoffersen residence property, just north of the Presbyterian manse, and will get possession soon. Mr. and Mrs. Christoffersen will move to Kennett, Missouri, to make their home.

• Charles L. Warnstaff purchased the Gomel Hardware & Supply Co. last Thursday from H. Burte Gomel, and took possession of the business under the firm name of the Warnstaff Hardware. Mr. Gomel will devote all of his time to the Fairfax Truck & Tractor Co., which he owns.

• About 80 persons attended the annual American Legion and Auxiliary turkey dinner held at the school auditorium Monday evening. The dinner was served by the Auxiliary and in addition to members of the two organizations, a number of World War II veterans and other guests were present.

December 17, 1970

• Mr. and Mrs. Richard Spiegel of Watson will enjoy an all-expense paid vacation trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, early in January as guests of Heinold Hog Markets. The surprise Christmas gift was the result of a contest conducted by Heinolds in observance of their 20th anniversary.

• Tuesday night Fairfax won their second basketball game in a row by romping over Craig 100-65.

• Nineteen youths participated in the Fairfax Kiwanis Club’s 1970 Corn Yield Contest. Winning trophy and/or cash awards were Richard Hawkins, Greg Hawkins, Scott Ray, Mike Irvine, Jack Graves, H.C. Pennel, Jim Davis, Jerry Walker, Harold Gomel, Billy Wayne Hawkins, Mike Hawkins, John Ball, DeWayne Koenig, Steve Irvine, Richard Oswald, Steve Bargman, Mark Mitchell, Jim Monk, and Bobby Irvine. Jack Graves was declared the winner with a record 177.14 bushels per acre. Lawrence Campbell won the first contest in 1947 with a yield of 92 bushels per acre on his five acre plot.

• Jerry Kincannon of Fairfax opened his business on Main Street last week. It is called Information Management Systems. His new business is high tech. At the present time, he is a consultant for General Motors automotive dealerships all over the U.S. The accounting systems are run by IBM computers. He is also developing software to assist dealerships in their day-to-tday business.

• Kathleen Delores Donelson and Wilfred Lee Harmes were married at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon, December 9, 1945, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. Rev. S. A. Whysong read the single ring ceremony. A surprise golden wedding party was held Saturday night at the Methodist Church in Fairfax with a host of friends and relatives in attendance and wedding cake and punch served.
