• The installation of the Frederich W. Mueller memorial organ in the chapel of David Rankin Hall, the second part of the four-fold college development program calling for a total outlay of $238,000, is to be started immediately following the Christmas holidays according to an announcement made this week by President M. Earle Collins. The organ was purchased and stored at the college at the beginning of the war as the inability to obtain critical materials made the installation at that time impossible.
• Showing at “The Tarkio” are “Man from Oklahoma” with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, “See My Lawyer” with Olsen and Johnson, “Torrid Zone” with James Cagney, “House on 92nd Street” with William Eythe and Loyd Nolan, “Belle of the Yukon” with Randolph Scott and Dinah Shore, and “Captain Eddy” with Fred MacMurray and Lynn Bari. Prices range from 10¢ to 41¢ per show.
December 31, 1970
• A National Science Foundation grant of $25,866 to Tarkio College in support of a cooperative program for the improvement of junior high science instruction in area public schools has been announced by President Eldon Breazier. Under this project, 20 junior high school science teachers from this area will receive stipends and allowances while attending a six-week workshop at Tarkio College during the summer of 1971, and will work closely together with the project staff in implementation of the new instructional procedures during 1971-72.
• Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. McKinley, San Diego, California, are holding an open house on January 10, 1971, in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. The McKinleys are former Tarkio residents.

• Atchison County Head Start had some very special visitors recently. Community Care of Tarkio made two visits, singing Christmas carols and playing rhythm band music with the students. The children also received gifts of oranges and coloring books, and a visit with Tawny, Community Care’s greyhound. Visiting the students were Santa’s helpers Steve Riley, Connie Lewis, Janet Lingerfelt, Allie Redfern, Dottie Wasserfallen, Shirley Boyer, Steve Campbell, and Cherryll Mann.
• Congresswoman Pat Danner announced that the City of Tarkio has been awarded a $55,761 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant by the U.S. Department of Justice. The COPS awards allow interested police agencies to supplement their current police forces through the hiring of additional police officers. The City of Tarkio will be able to fund one full-time and one part-time equivalent position with the grant.
