• Most people enjoy a white Christmas, but not many cared for 10 inches of it, like we had for Christmas this year. Snow fell almost all day Monday and Christmas Eve brought a brisk wind, which along with the falling snow, blocked roads in many places and made highway and country road travel hazardous. For about two weeks now, this section has had one of the coldest early winters in years.

• That Forum advertising sometimes draws business from a long distance. In the Hunter Store ad of December 14, Mr. B.P. Hunter advertised cranberries and the first of last week he received an order for them from Mrs. J.R. Engle of Greybull, Wyoming, a Forum subscriber. She said that there had been no cranberries in her town since November.

• Members of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority gave away a portable radio Saturday as part of their pancake day promotion. Santa drew the winning name and Mrs. Swinford of Stanberry was the lucky winner.

• Missouri Western College junior forward Richard Whitford from Fairfax scored his 1,000th collegiate point in the game against the University of Missouri Kansas City. Whitford has scored 22 points so far this year to bring his total to the mark. In addition, he has an outstanding free throw percentage during his four years at Missouri Western. He has canned .891 of his attempts from the line.

• During the month of December, OATS, Inc., received a new replacement vehicle for Atchison County. Federal funds paid for 80% of the cost of the bus, while the local Atchison County OATS Committee raised the remaining 20% ($5,000).

• At Fairfax Market, prices include: Soft’n Gentle 4-roll package of bath tissue, 99¢; Golden Ripe Dole bananas, 39¢ per pound; ground chuck, $1.39 per pound; chicken breast, $2.49 per pound; Pepsi, 2-liter bottle, $1.09; Hills Bros. coffee, 39 oz. can, $6.49; and Shurfine sugar, 5 pound bag, $1.69.
